  • New Hampshire Rechargeable Battery Disposal Ban: Starting July 1, 2025 it will be illegal to put rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in the trash! They must be recycled through special battery collection programs and NEVER mixed with regular recyclables. This new lithium-ion battery disposal ban has been added to the existing ban for lead acid batteries and electronic devices in RSA 149-M:27. Per RSA 149-M:27, lithium-ion batteries will be prohibited from disposal in New Hampshire’s landfills and incinerators to help reduce the risk of fires at solid waste facilities. The ban applies to everyone; residents and businesses. Lithium-ion batteries can be found in many rechargeable electric devices: • Electric bikes and scooters • Cordless power tools • Lawncare equipment • Portable devices (cell phones, laptops, tablets, wireless headphones, Bluetooth speakers) • Toys • Personal care items (rechargeable toothbrushes, shavers, waterpicks). Transfer Station Operators can tell you how to dispose of these batteries legally.
